Preti Taneja

Preti is a writer, broadcaster, film maker and human rights activist and a former student of St. Francis’ College. She left in 1995 to study at Jesus College in Cambridge and is currently a Leverhulme Early Career Research Fellow at Warwick University, working in the department of English and Comparative Literary Studies and Centre for Human Rights in Practice until 2020.Her debut novel, We That Are Young, was published in 2017, using King Lear as a framework to explore political and social changes in modern India. The novel has received great critical acclaim, with The Sunday Times describing it as “Revelatory. One of the most exquisite and original novels of the year.” The book has been published in the UK, India, USA and Canada, France, Denmark and Israel. She first came in contact with King Lear at St. Francis', and former Head of English, Mrs Mary Campbell, is listed in the book's Acknowledgements. Photo credit: Louise Haywood-Schieffer
